The Bachelor Pad

Hi all,

I finally got a light day at work so I can tell you about Ft.Myers. The area we cover is from Naples, FL to a couple conuties short of Tampa. Things are kinda in flux as the station is being bought out by another company, which will mean some changes in the future. But we only have one newscast as of right now, but that may change. But the way I work it almost seems like we have two or three hours of news. We do a lot of live shots, and I have been more and more adept at it every time.

I physically work and live in Cape Coral, which is a nice place to live. The odd thing about the area is that everyone seems to have a New York or Bostonian accent. Also strange is that one of our anchors is from Montana. Even funnier is that my roommate is originally from Terre Haute, where I used to work.

My roommate, Shaun, is a reporter for the station. He is a karaoke dj on the side, so we seem to get along well. We have a simular sence of humor and are really starting to click. We are getting our duplex in order--furnature coming in daily. We should be complete next month, as I need a bed and we are getting a bigger tv. It will be the place to be to hang out.

The karaoke scene is pretty good here. You can find two or three bars in the area that have karaoke seven days a week. As for the singles scene--the station seems to be plugged into it. Just in the midst of a "going out" lull.

That's about it for now. Laters.

The Quag Myers

Hi All,

Sorry for the wait on a post--didn't have internet access till now. Work has been crazy, trial by fire--not enough staff. But we only have one newscast a day so it has been like I was working a weekend in Indiana. I am trying to enjoy myself--say a sunset at the gulf on a live shot this weekend. I have a place so I'll be back up and running when I get my computer down here. My roomie is cool and will tell you about him later.

But I am trying to get settled and hopefully after I move in to my new place, things will be calmer. Will give you more of details on my journey and my job later. For now, I seem to enjoy working at the Fox station here and it seems like a nice place to live.

Laters.

One more shot before I go

Before I leave you, I do have two stories for you to give you quick laugh.

I went to a baseball game this last week and signed up for a contest called "Freeze your a$$ off and win a free t-shirt". The contest involves unraveling a frozen t-shirt and putting it on. I wound up getting picked to face another guy to win a prize--we would both get t-shirts. I was called at the top of the inning and the top of the next inning, we would do the contest. I had to take off my jacket and flannel shirt for this and it was in the low '60's that night.

So I was a bit cold, and the inning was lasting a while. It was about twenty minutes before we finally got to the contest. The shirt was a little thawed out and I ended up winning the shirt and two tickets to a future ballgame. The bad news was I wasn't going to able to. They don't have a game until after I leave for Ft. Myers. So I wound up giving my tickets to my brother and sister-in-law.

Now an even funnier and more concise story. I had sold my car to a couple last week, who had given it to a student they were mentoring. I get a call at 3:30 this morning from the police. My plates were still on the vehicle, as they didn't register it in their name yet, and the police had said that the car had rolled down the street, hitting cars and a dumpster. No one was in it, and the car was possibly parked at a car delaership where it was being serviced. So I have no clue who's fault it was, only that the only explaination is that someone had it in neutral, consider the breaks on it are new.

See you in ft. Myers.

Leavin on a Jet Plane

"My bags are pack. I'm ready to go."

The only problem is I don't have an apartment set up. It seems no one has one until mid-October so I get to stay in a motel for a month, unless something happens where I can stay with someone or something opens up.

Some of my stuff is staying until then, including my computer, which I was thinking about replacing anyways. It's eight years old anyways and I need one that I can edit video on. But that comes when I can get settled. I will have interent at work, so I will be able to post, but not my lenthy posts that you are used to. But I will keep you posted.

Ft. Myers isn't has hard hit as New Orleans, so it won't be a dasater when I get there and we will have running water and power. It was only catagory one when it hit there. But the Houston airport should be interesting.

For now, its basically get down there and try to get a car and apartment. Although gas will probably be an arm and a leg down there. But the good thing is that I have a job with a good salary and the ability to get back on my feet. Plus the ladies down there--a lot of place to have fun.

So for now, I am off and hopefully when I write you next, a plan will be in place for an apartment and a car.
