Barbarians at the gate and MarQ meets the Page

Hi all,

Finally have somethings to talk about...

First off, I get in Sunday to work to find three vultures at the front door. If this isn't a bad omen, I don't know what is. lol. Considering the station is offically being taken over this coming Monday (yes they finally announced it!!!). We had a little bit of an orientation today, but I missed most of it, working and all. But I did have a lot of time to read the employee handbook. I am not going to mention the company's name, because I do have a negative thing to say about it. But hey, I am still working for Emmis until Monday, right?

The handbook seemed very corporate (I had described it as "socialist" to a reporter) as the word "loyality" came up in the book more than any other word. The wording seemed more as "we pay you, so you have to do this" rather than "we respect you as an employee and here are some guidelines to follow". And there are certain liberties we are giving up in the process, namely comp days. But until our new news director comes in, we don't know how good or bad it is going to be. So its still another wating game here.

Now to some good news. I get a call Monday from my roommate. "Get in you car and drive to Books-a-million. Diamond Dallas Page is signing autographs." I have read his biography twice and was mnore than willing to get there to meet the man.

For those of you not in the know, DDP is a wrestler with a very colorful history. He ran bars during his twenties, (one here in Ft. Myers called Norma Jeans was his most popular one--sorry to say now defunct) and became a wrestling manager in his late twenties. He became a wrestler in his early thirties, which is late for any wrestler to start, but he became world champion eventually and he is now retired.

As what I got from his book, Dallas is a very nice guy. Very extroverted and friendly. He invited me to a bar where he was meeet with his old posse from Norma Jeans. I did go for a bit, Dallas greeted me warmly, but me not being a social butterfly said hi to a few people and left. But I know we will cross pathes again, he comes down here every few months and if he has a story, he will more than like call.

I will post soon. Laters.

Thank God its Black Friday

And we're off...

I had to work over Thanksgiving
The "busiest shopping day of the year"
Supposively the beginning
of the Christmas Cheer

I heard people saying
"I shop later on"
But I went to Wal-Mart
Before the DVD recorders were gone.

The laptops went fast
Forty just wasn't enough
They started it early
Said some shoppers in a huff.
In Montana it was chaos
Just one in every city
It must have been a battle
Just to get a flat screen tv

I didn't need a cart
Just the recorder I sought
It was a lot easier
Considering the lines I had fought

There were units left
much to my surpise
I grab myself one
of the great season buys

My present shopping
wasn't done this day
I'm like the others,
saying next week will be okay

But when the turkey is eaten
and the presents are wrapped
Thank god for the stores
that had more staff.

I will enjoy my recorder
and all is still well.
Until next year's black Friday's
and the Holiday sales.

Now in Technicolor

Sorry I haven't been posting. November is one of the four busiest months in the tv business--known as sweeps. Its where we try to get better ratings to get our advertisers to pay more for commercial time. So that means more live shots, meaning I am out in the field more. Oy vey.

If you haven't noticed, I have now pictures up on the blog. You get to see me finally if you haven't. Oh the horror. But its nice to have a thousand words wrapped up in a picture.

Nothing new has been going on besides work. Nothing interesting going on but charity events and more charity events. I did go to see the new Harry Potter when it opened. Never read the books, and won't until the series of movies end. My roommate is a bit irriated by my stand on this, but I want to read the books after some of this hype has gone down. But I am now calling it the "Empire Strikes Back" of the series, although I hear the next one is even more darker and sad. I thought J.K. was a nice woman who wrote kids books. I was wrong. Steven King watch your back.

I will try to post when I gt a chance. I get to stay here for the holidays and just to thing, I have 64 more days until thirty. I am planning on visitors and already have the days around it off. Will keep you posted.

You make the beach MTV call...

Okay, I promised you an update on my social life. Well, I want you to judge for yourself...

I asked a woman from work out last week. I have been talking to her and getting to know her better over the past few weeks to kinda see what she is like. She is nice, has a similar sence of humor, and I find her attractive. I have several people at work pulling for me as well, helping me make some decisions on where to go, how to dress, the like. She agreed to go out last night if she wasn't too tired the from helping her aunt move. I told her to give me a call yesterday to let me know.

I recieved no call either way last night. My roommate wasn't happy that she didn't call, as he thinks she blew me off. I however took it as a miscommunication on our part, as she may have not known to call if she wasn't able to go. I talked to her and she said that was the reason why she didn't and apoligized. I basically told her the offer is open--when she wants to go out, let me know.

The ball is in her court. So we will see.

Will give you a posting over the weekend. Laters.
