Showing signs of my age or do they just like crappy music?

There's a song by Joe Walsh that says "Everything's so different, I haven't changed." It isn't as true as it has been this last week.

The station is changing rapidly. Several people are quitting the station for various reasons; new staff members are being added daily, and the new set is making us look more big market. Plus all the reporters had gotten new make-up and hair styles from this New York based salon. Basically, the station had a make-over. But I haven't changed.

Now to the question. I was out with the peeps from work and we wound up at someone's house. I was relaxing on the couch, listen to people talk as per usual, and also thinking about my life in general. They the computer on playing some mp3's of what I considered some crappy music. Mainly newer rap which didn't have really good backbeats and the rappers sounded angry, but not flowing. I wound up getting on the computer, which didn't have many good songs to chose from. What's nuts is that I have been having this song in my head the past few weeks, which seems to be my new anthem, and had to listen to it. So, I put on "Living in Fast Forward" by Kenny Chesney, and the boos started. It seems no one likes country in the group.

"Play something we can sing to."

I play "Total Eclipse of the Heart".

Booed again.

I play "Wake Me Up before You Go-Go".

"Get off the computer."

They go back to the crap music.

I never used to listen to country on my own. I did a little in high school because my high school was full of people who liked country music. Plus my parents had played country music when I was younger when we would go on family trips. But as I got older, I started to listen to more and more of it. This happened more often when I lived in Vegas and my friends listened to it there.

There are two reasons I think I listen to it more nowadays than I was growing up. First was that current pop music sucks with some exceptiions. I grew up with great one hit wonders and bands that actually sounds good. The current pop stuff is so manufactured, slow, and stale. And for the record, I've always hated techno and house music. It's uninventive. At least rap you have to figure out lyrics and flow.

The second is that I can relate to it more now than I could back then. Escpecially "Living in Fast Forward." My friends are all settling down and I still haven't. Not they are worried, but I don't see myself settling down anytime soon. I haven't found that singular space in which I feel "I can be here for the rest of my life." Plus I still like to have fun, and I still feel like I am in my mid-twenties. Plus I haven't had any girlfriends since high school.

I move into my new place on Wed. Sorry to say I don't live on the beach, which there aren't many on the island--its surronded by marsh land. They do have boat ramps, but no boat on my end. I have help moving in and hope to get it done quickly.

The only other update is my friend's wedding in New York in October. I am dj-ing for him at the reception. let's hope a few bride's maids give me a look. ;)

Laters.
